Baker Hughes 10k Race and What’s Up Next

Not got a massive lot to say about the Baker Hughes 10k.  The sending out of race numbers seemed to be a bit of a shambles this year as we didn’t get them till a few days before the race.  It was also hit or miss if you got a t-shirt and if you did if the t-shirt was the right size.  I was one of the lucky ones who received a t-shirt which in fact was the right size.

This is the first 10k I have attempted this year.  With most of my races being longer and me having done a run / walk type of thing, I was just looking to see how I got on, so was just taking it easy.

I was sporting the new jogscotland Hazlehead kit which made us pretty hard to miss.

I must admit when walking through the crowd prior to the race I did wonder how I would spot folks, but it was pretty hard to miss the electric orange tops!

I started the race nice and slowly and just kept on trotting along.  As I have been doing a lot of run / walking, I was surprised how far I managed to go before getting tired.  Had a quick walk through the water station then managed to keep going pretty much till just before the second water station.

By 9k I was really tired though, but I managed the run up the hill and then a poor unsuspecting lady got the benefit of getting dragged over the finishing line be her friend on one side and me on the other.

Next up is the EMF Half in Edinburgh this Sunday.  Still not figured out how I’m going to tackle this one.  I think I’m just going to see how I feel on the day.  Current weather forecast is not looking too brilliant:

Perhaps a touch windy!

Will keep an eye on it to see how things progress during the week.  I have a lovely purple number again this year:

Purple so at the back.

Yup, here is the confirmation of exactly where I’ll be starting:

Very much at the back.

To be fair I don’t mind, as long as they don’t run out of beer at the finish!  I am hoping for a PB, so I’ll just have to see how things go on the day.  I know I can go quicker than I did in Inverness, I’m just hoping that I don’t get cramp again.

Looking forward to it, but still a little nervous, but I’ve done all I can so I’ll see you on the other side so to speak 🙂
